[So far, White's been able to resist the urge to ask Leo if she can stay with him - and declining whenever he's asked, or looked like he was going to suggest it. The idea had come to mind a few days after Black had gone (and she'd asked where he was, the answer unsatisfactory as it was short) and she'd pushed it off, busying herself much like she had when she was eager for sleep earlier in the month.
It'd returned on Halloween, after that odd party she'd half-enjoyed, but especially after what happened there she couldn't allow herself that comfort. She just had to trust her brother was okay.
... But the party had come and gone, the eleventh month had begun, and White had become antsy once more. Unable to keep her focus on the book she'd "borrowed" from her new job, she decides that a midnight walk is definitely necessary and perfectly fine, wondering if she should invite Leo along and stamping a big rejected on that idea.
So she opens the door once she's packed up and ready to go--]
[ He'd been just on his way in--after waking up in one of Verens' inns, an entire week missing from his memory. There's quiet in his head for once, and for the first time in a long time, it worries him.
He smooths it over before it takes over and smiles, taking her into his arms--there's no doubt that she'll be bolting into it anyway. Mutual things. ]
[When Black wakes up, White'll already be gone to the post office to drop off the rest of gifts (save for Leo's), but he's got his own presents to entertain himself with:
Three brand new books, a dark bottle that's some kind of whiskey, and a small letter with ribbons drawn around his name.]
Merry Christmas! Not that it means much here... I'll be home later, but until then I hope you'll enjoy getting a taste of your own medicine for buying me books every year back in the city -- and enjoy having a taste of home tonight.
Keep your stomach empty!
Your sister, White ♥
P.S. It's so weird to celebrate Christmas here, but I'm glad I'll get to spend it with you. Let's build a snow family before it all melts.
[Hope you weren't doing anything else, Black, because White is busting in with the loud proclamation in the world, electricity crackling as the undercurrent of her announcement, literal sunlight pouring in behind her to give a most unearthly glow--]
I'm running for representative and you're going to help me!
Black shuts the door with nary a greeting, kneeling down to unhook Benny's leash from her collar and watch her scamper ahead; he follows shortly after, hands in his hoodie pockets as he watches their dog sits by his sister's feet, panting happily.
[Silver was all too eager to have a buddy looking at mushrooms in the woods with him when Black mentioned it, and that's probably why he's taken off with Honchkrow (and Black in tow) today.
They land not too far from the mushrooms in question, and Silver sets Black down and starts walking right away. Thanks, Honchkrow.]
You know not to mix the blue and yellow ones, right?
I know we shouldn't be mixing mushrooms at all just in case there's any adverse effects. [ MR. STRAIGHT-LACED NERD HERE-- ] Did you have a bad time recently?
[Black, darling, when you come home today, your sister has dressed up in the most garrish of Verens' fashion with her hair tucked into a similarly absurd buckled hat, all the belts apparently stolen from Final Fantasy to make up the shirt she's wearing as she flourishes a hand and grins brightly.]
[When White returns, she's tired. She's so, so tired, but she gets herself to stand and drag herself to the wall, using it as a lean-to as she makes her way downstairs.
Everything... looks fine, which sets her mind a little at ease, and she closes her eyes. Grips her crystal tightly and, with the weakest, softest thought, calls out for her brother.]
Black?
[Please let her get him and not the other. Please let him still be here. She doesn't want to be alone, as much as she deserves it; she's done so much for him, and if he isn't here anymore... if she's been left alone...
Some of the ivy droops on the wall beside her, and with every step down she's concentrating on not falling down the damn stairs. It hasn't come to her attention how nervous the house feels, how everything is tense and restless, but that's only attributing to the fatigue she has herself.]
[ Something pops distinctly downstairs, and there's the gentle sting of pain beneath the relief and nervousness in Black's own thoughts. ]
White, you're home! [ A slight pause, and a hesitant remedy. ] Back. You're back.
[ He'll peek out from their kitchen, holding his hand with a wince; judging by the placement of his cut, the pop from before had been a glass of something or other. He visibly brightens, the flowers they've inevitably put everywhere in their house turning to greet White in turn, petals stretching out and their leaves stretching towards her. ]
[So. They've returned to Verens and Sigrun's gotten Proper Hospital Care for the broken leg and arm she's sporting (want of healy people still pending).
... What of the elk. While Black's still here, she's been trying to figure how to word this, and finally she settles on clearing her throat to catch his attention.]
So, mousy, I know I've been some trouble for you -- and I really owe you one, helping me back here and all, promise I won't get into anything serious for the next like two months -- but do you mind doing me a favor? A problem, uh, just occurred to me about Thorim.
[One day, there's going to be a plainly wrapped box sitting outside Black's house! White probably brings it in for him. When opened, it's very much a too-big box for the single book that lay inside, something from Theasthai. A history on plays. It's... not much, honestly, since they do do it orally mostly, but there's some cool facts in there! Like documentations of when a play burned down a theater, that's cool.
And a note. Look at that horrendous handwriting. Who could it be from!]
MOUSY
HOPE THE SPOTTY WEATHER IS TREATING YOU WELL. WE USUALLY GIVE GIFTS AT THE PEAK OF WINTER BUT OBVIOUSLY THIS PLACE SUCKS AND DOESN'T REALLY WORK THAT OUT SO I'M JUST GIVING GIFTS OUT THIS WEEK! IT'S A BOOK. YOU LIKE BOOKS. AND IT'S HISTORY, AND YOU LIKE HISTORY. I DON'T ACTUALLY KNOW IF YOU'LL LIKE IT BUT I HOPE YOU DO!
[ ...HE WASN'T EXPECTING A GIFT, AND HE ALSO WASN'T EXPECTING THIS SORT OF GIFT, which is silly.
And— "there's no need to give back," sure, whatever.
...He's still going to seek her out and thrust a wicker basket at her. ]
There's a handwriting template I made to help you practice legibility, and... some other things you'll like more, I think. [ ... ] I know you said I didn't have to get you anything, but I wanted to?
[ (White would have nagged him if he didn't. But he also wanted to, sort of.)
The "things she'll like more" are several bottles of different types of alcohol and liquor, by the way. ]
[Look at this bright and wonderful morning. How lovely. How not embarrassing.
Anyway.
Black's getting woken up by his sister today, not Benny (who's happy with the bone White got her) or Socks (who's preoccupied with the only mouse he's ever been able to catch: a toy), and she's not pulling punches when she belly flops onto him.]
It's that time of year, Black! Give me my present!
[ It's mostly exaggerated, but Black groooooooaaans and shoves at her face, squinting as he tries to... just... process this. All of this. ]
...If we want to get really technical, it's only the... eighth? Ninth? Month of the year, so it's not even anywhere near what would traditionally be December. [ Not to mention it hadn't really been feeling like it either—but they had had a party for the winter last year, and he can concede to this. Mostly. ] Aren't you a little too old to be demanding presents anyway, White?
[So Black's been wanting to go to Thera to collect things, and now that Sigrun is... better, she's very much able to help him out!
Because she is combat orientated and that is what she is here for. In case things get dicey.
She's letting Black lead for the most part; she'll stop him if she hears any sounds of those baddies about, but they can comfortably make their way through most of this via stealth. Sigrun is very much a protective wolf over him.]
This place hasn't changed much since I first came here. [so long ago, it feels.] Kind of disappointing, honestly. Do you mind if we collect some of the feelings-heavy treasure too? I'm looking to buy a house and bangs is expensive.
[ He's having a good time, more or less; it's an interesting history place, and he's interested in its history!! He's collecting emotion shards on the ground when he sees them, inspecting their color with soft hums, and pockets a few as Sigrun speaks. ]
As long as you can handle it, I don't mind. [ ... ] Why are you looking for a house?
[ are you going to take away custody of Thorim 8( ]
[The flowers turn to the door before it even opens, the blossoms shimmering slightly when it does, and White's humming a little as she comes in; there's nothing notably new about her, not unless Black notices the way she's playing with her hands and the ring that seems to swirl different colors as a result, how there's a certain glow and warmth she can't contain as well as she can normally.
She'll pick up Socks when he trots up to greet her, kissing his head.]
Hi there, sorry for leaving you. Do you still want to play?
[Apparently not, since he'll just paw at her until she sets him down and run back to Black. Purrpurr.]
